As half Thai half German (and part Polish and Chinese) I have always had deep interest in my Asian roots. I began to explore Bangkok’s ancient communities and to trace the migration, trade and travel routes of my 95-year old grandmother, my Chinese ancestors and that of 19th century missionaries in the Chao Phraya, Tha Chin and Maeklong River Basins.
I want to explore what is left of the old world and understand how people in the present relate to their past and how they envision the future of their communities.
In light of rapid development I want to shine light on Thailand’s forgotten communities and together with you support local tourism initiatives and spread tourism income into local economies which helps to preserve Thailand’s beautiful but vanishing past.
Below are some of my goals that I want to achieve by 2023
The regions I explore, click on a map for more information
BANGKOK’S RIVERINE COMMUNITIES
BETWEEN THE CHAO PHRAYA AND THA CHIN RIVER
BANGKOK’S SOUTH TOWARDS THE COAST
Initiated in April 2022, this is a long-term exploration and mapping project and we are just at the beginning. We hope that by the time we are through the pandemic we will be able to bring local conservation projects and tourism initiatives on the radar. The progress of our goals for each region can be followed on YouTube and Instagram. We will update the pages below accordingly. If you want to support our endeavours you can support through the Buy me a coffee website. There you will receive exclusive perks to nurture your curiosity and love for Thailand.
