Bye Bye Chinatown started as a photo exhibition about the gentrification of one of the world’s largest and most authentic Chinatowns. We translated the topic of the exhibition into a community-based walking tour to dive right into the heart and DNA of what is known as Sampeng and Yaowarat. Learn about the unique and vital part of the Thai-Chinese history, the city’s success story and the challenges to balance progress and conservation. We provide a hands-on experience in collaboration with the Charoen Chai Community, Thailand’s last remaining Joss paper trading community. With the coming of the new subway communities such as Chaoren Chai are threatened as developers and government are zeroing in on this historically unique part of the city. We hope that by developing and supporting cultural tourism initiatives the decisions on the future of Bangkok’s historic areas will shift in favor of preserving their rich cultural heritage.
I felt like I was a part of the everyday life of a vibrant, energetic, and cosmopolitan city. Where most tours look at an aspect of a culture, this tour allows its participants to be part of the culture
This tour is highly recommended if you like tours with that personal touch ,small group, very helpful and friendly staff throughout the process of booking .really enjoyed our day would have done the 360 tour as well but run out of time.
“Great for first timers and Bangkok veterans”
Well, all I can say is, awesome. We did the Starters tour today with Mu. It was great. We had high expectations due to the TripAdvisor reviews, and the tour fit the bill.
If you want to see the real Bangkok, "local" style than this is the best possible way for you to do it.
