NICHOLAS' STORY

Many years ago I went to Israel with a delegation to advocate for peace. I went against the advice of my family and against the policies of my government as I hail from Malaysia. I witnessed daily life and I remember well the moment when I saw a Muslim Imam and a Jew who hugged in friendship. This scene stuck with me, as it showed me another side of the human narrative that we are told in the media. Since then I transitioned from being a mechanical engineer to make peace advocacy my career with a focus on youth empowerment. I’m married to a Thai wife and I have two kids. I see a lot of potential and children and they give me a lot of hope but there is not enough we do for them. Adults think that they don’t have enough experience or resources and we complain rather than support them. Lots of young people are in a difficult situation even though we as a society have advanced technologies. We need to act now, in fifteen years from now we can’t let young people work in an old system. The systems whether politics or education are obsolete and thus we need to change them from the bottom up. The best opportunity to make a difference came to me through GPF (Global Peace Foundation). Through GPF I have been able to empower myself to become an empowerer for youth.
